Frequently asked questions

How to plan a trip, how your must-sees work alongside AI picks, and how weather-aware packing lists are built.

Planning a trip

From your first destination to a day-by-day plan — here's how Trip Companion turns a rough idea into something you can actually travel with.

How do I plan a trip from scratch?

Sign in, then add a destination, your travel dates, an overall budget, and a few interests. Trip Companion builds a dashboard around that trip, with a budget tracker, a packing list, and a day-by-day itinerary you can refine as you go.

Can I plan more than one trip at a time?

Yes. Each trip is kept separate, with its own budget, packing list, itinerary, and recommendations. Switch between trips from your profile whenever you like.

How is my budget tracked during the trip?

Add expenses as you spend — a coffee, a train ticket, a long dinner — and the tracker keeps a running total against your budget, with a colour-coded bar (green, amber, red) and a category breakdown so you can see where the money goes.

Do you take weather and dates into account?

Yes. Trip Companion checks the forecast for your destination and dates, and the day planner and packing suggestions adapt to expected conditions — for example, warmer layers for a cold-weather city or rain gear when showers are likely.

Must-sees vs. AI picks

You decide what matters most; the planner fills in the rest. Here's how your must-dos work alongside AI suggestions.

What's the difference between a must-do and an AI recommendation?

A must-do is something you already know you want to experience — say, Big Ben in London or a specific museum. AI recommendations are editorial picks the planner suggests based on your interests and the time you have, to round out your days.

How do I add a must-do or must-see?

At the start of planning, type your must-dos and must-sees into the box provided, one per line or separated by commas. Trip Companion recognises real places near your destination and works them straight into your itinerary.

What if I type a place the planner doesn't recognise?

If a name can't be matched to a verified venue, it's still saved as a plain reminder on your plan so nothing gets lost. You can schedule it yourself, or edit it to be more specific and let the planner try again.

Can I reshuffle a day and keep my must-sees?

Yes. Reshuffling rearranges the suggestions around your anchors, not the anchors themselves. Your must-sees stay booked into the day; the planner regenerates the supporting activities and timing to keep things flowing.

Packing tips

Your packing list is auto-generated from your trip and the weather — so it's relevant, not a generic checklist.

How is my packing list generated?

Trip Companion looks at your destination, dates, and the forecast, then builds a starter list grouped by category — Clothing, Documents, Electronics, Toiletries, and Misc. You check items off as you pack, and the progress indicator tracks what's left.

Does the packing list adapt to the weather?

Yes. If you're heading to New York in December, you'll see warmer layers and won't be told to pack shorts and flip-flops. If rain or snow is likely, rain gear and the right footwear are suggested automatically.

Can I add or remove items?

Absolutely. Add anything specific to your trip and remove anything you don't need. Your edits are saved to the trip, so the list stays yours across refreshes and devices.

What if my trip is further out than the forecast reaches?

For dates beyond the live forecast window, Trip Companion uses recent historical averages for the same time of year at your destination, so the suggestions stay sensible even for trips months away.
